The Florio Club Commitment
Join the growing community of golf clubs committed to supporting good mental health.
About the Commitment
The Florio Club Commitment recognises golf clubs that are committed to supporting the mental health of their members, staff and volunteers. It's about helping those clubs achieve that goal.
Golf is at its best when it brings people together. Every club that signs joins a growing movement across the golf community to improve mental health in the game.
What your club commits to
By signing, your club makes a public declaration of its ambition to support the mental health and wellbeing of everyone at the club. Your club commits to:
Recognising that mental health matters to everyone at the club, just like physical health.
Treating people with respect and without judgement, whatever they're going through.
Making it easier to talk, so people feel able to say how they're doing and ask for support early.
Knowing where to point people for support, and acting quickly when someone needs help.
Respecting people's privacy, while always putting their safety first.
Looking after the people who look after the club: its staff and volunteers.
Helping everyone feel welcome and part of the club.

Putting it into practice: the ten steps
To help your club turn these commitments into action, we've developed ten practical steps to a mentally healthier golf club. As part of the Commitment, your club agrees to work through them.
There's no deadline and no set order. Each step comes with free guidance and templates, and the Club Check shows where your club is and what to focus on next.
Why sign
Signing the Commitment is a small decision that makes a real statement.
For your members and visitors
It shows them your club cares about more than the course, and that support is there if they or someone they know needs it.
For your staff and volunteers
It shows the people who keep your club running that their wellbeing matters, which helps you keep good people and attract new ones.
For your club
It gives your committee a clear, ready-made way to act on mental health, with structure and resources behind it. It shows a club taking its duty of care seriously, and it's something you can point to in membership recruitment, funding bids and conversations with your county.
For whoever is championing it
It turns a good intention into something official, backed by the club's leadership, so you're not doing it on your own.
There's no one-size-fits-all
Every golf club is different, and so is the way each club approaches mental health. The Commitment is flexible: your club decides how to put it into practice, in the way that works best for you, at a pace that suits you.

How it works
- 1
Agree it
Your club's leadership agrees to make the commitment. That might be the committee, the board or the owner. Our committee briefing explains what's involved and includes suggested wording for the minutes.
- 2
Sign it
Someone who can speak for the club signs on the club's behalf, using our short sign-up form.
- 3
Take action
Work through the ten steps in any order and at your own pace, with free guidance, templates and resources for each one.
Questions
Does it cost anything?
No. The Commitment is free for every golf club.
Is it an accreditation?
No. It's a commitment to work towards a mentally healthier club, not a certificate saying you've got there.
We haven't done anything on mental health yet. Can we still sign?
Yes. The Commitment is about where your club is heading, not where it is today. Whether you're starting from scratch or already have things in place, the ten steps help you take the next step.
Do we have to complete all ten steps?
There's no deadline and no set order. The commitment is to work through them at a pace that suits your club. The Club Check helps you see what to focus on next.
Does anyone at the club become a counsellor?
No. The ten steps are about knowing how to help and where to point people, not providing treatment.
What happens if our committee changes?
The commitment belongs to the club, not the person who signed it. You can update your contact details at any time, and renewing every two years gives your new leadership the chance to confirm it.
Does signing commit us to any paid programmes?
No. Florio's Partner Club programme is optional, for clubs that want to go further.
Can we withdraw?
Yes, at any time. Just let us know and we'll remove your club from the list.
What happens to our details?
We use them to support your club and to understand how many clubs are taking part. We only share that your club has signed if you agree. Privacy statement
